DANE COUNTY - The Dane County Sheriff's Office says it has more than twice as many inmates on electronic home monitoring now compared to the start of the year.
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney says he hopes to get 200 on monitoring to reduce the number of inmates housed at other county jails.
Dane County spent more than $3 million last year to transport and board inmates.
Still, Mahoney says he's satisfied with the progress being made.
Dane County had 138 inmates on electronic monitoring Friday, compared to 57 on that day a year ago.
It had 32 inmates at other county jails, compared to 115 a year ago.
Mahoney says the county saved about $300,000 in boarding costs in the first six months of the year because of the changes.
