61 roosters found in cockfighting investigationSubmitted: 07/03/2014
Story By Associated Press

JANESVILLE - Authorities say a four-month investigation into an alleged breeding site for cockfighting roosters in Rock County has led to the discovery of 61 caged roosters _ and 16 pounds of pot.

Authorities arrested a 37-year-old man Tuesday on tentative charges of instigating fights between animals, possessing marijuana with intent to deliver, and maintaining a drug trafficking house.

Sheriff's officials say the roosters were found as authorities searched the home in the town of Newark. The roosters were evaluated and none needed immediate medical care.

Authorities say they found the marijuana in a small, concealed crawlspace in the floor. It was packed in 15 vacuum-sealed packages.
