Hodags, Pines advance to sectional finalsSubmitted: 06/12/2014

RHINELANDER - The Hodag girls soccer team has never made it to the state tournament.

A year ago, Rhinelander reached the Division 1 sectional semifinals. Rhinelander was shutout by D.C. Everest on the road.

Thursday night, Hodags were playing their final home game. This time, it was Marshfield in Rhinelander in the Division Two section semifinals.

And Rhinelander jumped on the board early and often.

Sydney Zettler and Liz Krug combined for all seven goals in Rhinelander's 7-0 victory.


Rhinelander faces River Falls Saturday afternoon for the sectional final in Wausau. Game time at Wausau East High School is at 4:30pm.

In Division Three, Northland Pines faced West Salem on the road. Eagles with a 3-1 victory. Eagles will face Ashland on Saturday in that sectional final scheduled for 1pm in Chippewa Falls.

In Division One, D.C. Everest knocked off Stevens Point 4-1. Evergreens take on Appleton North on Saturday.

RHINELANDER - If you did a double take driving down county highways this week, it was for good reason. Oneida County posted its weight limit restriction signs Monday.  That's the earliest those signs have gone up in more than 15 years.

Usually weight limits go into effect in mid-March. Counties put them on to protect roads as frost comes out of the ground.  Oneida County Highway Commissioner Bruce Stefonek tried to wait as long as possible.
