Lakeland girls soccer, Antigo baseball earn victoriesSubmitted: 04/22/2014
Story By Marisa Silvas

ANTIGO - We all know about the rough winter we have braved through.

One of the side effects is many Northwoods sports teams have been unable to get any games in.

But thanks to last weekend's temps, that problem as well as the snow seems to be a distant memory.

Tuesday afternoon, Antigo's girls soccer team finally had their season opener. The Red Robins were hosting Lakeland with very windy conditions.

First half, Clara Schroeder with the great pass up ahead to Katelyn Nimsgern. Katelyn sneaks it past the Antigo goal keeper for the goal. T-Birds up 1-0.

Later in the first, Morgan Courtney kicks it to Sydney Ziebart. Sydney fires one - it's blocked - but she gets the rebound to go for the 2-0 lead.

Lakeland gets the big win 4-0.

On the diamond, the Red Robins baseball team was also at home. Antigo took on Tomahawk at Kretz Park.

In the bottom of the fourth, with the Red Robins leading 1-0, Randy Krebbs had the bases laoded. He sent a sacrifice drive to deep center field. It allowed Max Nowinski to score easily and put Antigo up 2-0.

Tomahawk had the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning. A passed ball opens the door for Aaron Leonhard to come home and make it a one run game at 2-1.

But the Red Robins have a huge sixth inning. Antigo scored five runs, including Josh Hale with a bases clearing double.

Antigo knocked off Tomahawk 7-3.
