EAGLE RIVER - Every year the Eagle River Snowmobile Derby attracts people from all over the country, and the world.
One group of men from Sweden returned to the derby this year and invited some others who had never been to the states before.
Although they come from a foreign country, snowmobile racing is certainly no foreign concept.
Mattias Andersson says he's been racing since 2002. This is his fourth year racing in Eagle River. Andersson's friend, Marcus Nystrom, runs his own snowmobile derby in their hometown in northern Sweden, called, "Sno Pro Scandinavia."
They heard about the Eagle River derby through their friend, Chris Dahl, who moved from Sweden to Woodruff about 25 years ago.
"I actually saw it in the newspaper back home in Sweden that, oh my goodness, Chris Dahl is racing at Eagle River, I have to call him right away," Andersson said.
They race in American sleds, but Andersson promises they are "Swedish tuned." Since comign to Eagle River, he and his fellow Swedes cheer each other on, make new friends and aim to bring home trophies to Sweden.
They haven't decided what to do with their sleds once they leave for Sweden on Monday.
