New ArtStart exhibit leads to new series, opportunities Submitted: 03/18/2014

RHINELANDER - We all hear how art can enhance a community.

For ArtStart in Rhinelander, showing that never gets old.

The new WisconsinCity exhibit will be a game-changer for the community based museum.

It features seven new artists from Milwaukee, Madison and the Fox Valley.

Each artist's work uses the theme of urban life. But the exhibit represents a wide variety of art techniques.

"Some of it you're going to look and think, "huh?" But, the more you look at it, the more you see. That's what we're going to ask our visitors to the gallery to do," Laura Ehmann, ArtStart Exhibition team.

ArtStart volunteers want the art they feature to give smaller communities a taste of big city culture.

"Some of it is humorous, some of it is very personal, some of it is just out there, but out there for a reason."

They believe that dedication is part of a bigger picture.

"We have as much culture and big city things as anywhere else. Part of ArtStart for me, is bringing that here and having everyone get involved with it," said Ehmann. "People who live here get involved, it's like a picture of a wider world, but yet we're doing locally, we're doing it here."

ArtStart volunteers believe this exhibit has opened the doors for new opportunities at the museum.

This summer, a film and concert series will be hosted by ArtStart.

The WisconsinCity exhibit opens March 20 at 11 a.m.

There is no cost to enjoy the exhibit.
