Men in trouble for burning down ice shantySubmitted: 03/17/2014
Story By Newswatch 12 Newsteam

MERRILL - Getting fishing shantys off lakes can be frustrating when the ice locks them in place, but you can't just burn them down.

Two Merrill men are in trouble for doing just that Saturday night.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office got a 911 call around 9 Saturday night, reporting an ice shany engulfed in flames on Copper Bay.

The shanty was already destroyed when emergency personel got there.

A witness saw a man walk away from the shanty just before the fire and get into a dark truck.

Shortly after, the truck was found stuck on the ice.

The men admitted burning their own shanty because it was stuck in the ice.

The men will have to clean up the area and will be cited for violating DNR burning rules.
