Chronic wasting infection rates rise in area west of MadisonSubmitted: 02/26/2014
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - Chronic wasting disease continues to spread among deer west of Madison.

The Wisconsin DNR says one in four bucks has C-W-D in Iowa and western Dane counties.

The DNR says about 25 percent is based on 20-13 test results.

The tests were done in the management zone where the disease was first discovered in Wisconsin more than a decade ago.

A year ago, about 20 percent of bucks had the disease in the area west of Madison.

The DNR says year-to-year comparisons are difficult because the annual Sampling isn't the same.

But conservation officials say the trend is clear.

The rate of infection is rising and it's higher in male adult deer.
