Heroin bills clear state senateSubmitted: 02/19/2014
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - New help may be coming in the fight against heroin and other drugs.

The Wisconsin state Senate passed 4 bills designed to combat heroin use and help those who are addicted.

The bills passed unanimously in the Assembly.

They now head to Gov. Scott Walker.

One proposal would let all emergency responders get training to administer Narcan.

That's a drug that counteracts heroin overdoses.

Another would guarantee a measure of immunity for anyone who calls 911 to report an overdose.

A third bill allows municipalities to hold prescription drug COLLECTION drives.

And a fourth would require ID to get prescription drugs containing narcotics.

All four were introduced by representative John Nygren of Marinette.

His daughter has struggled with heroin addiction.

TOWN OF MAINE - Fall won't officially start until Monday evening, but that doesn't mean fall activities haven't hit the Northwoods.

You could find people zipped up in fleece jackets trying to find their way out of a corn maze Sunday. This is the 15th year Willow Springs Garden held its corn maze in the Town of Maine.

They started this to raise money to restore the old town hall.

"We wanted to restore it. Not for sure what we were going to use it for at first, but then the community kind of indicated to us that they want to use it," said Willlow Springs Garden Owner Peggy Griffin. "We created it to host family events, wedding, reunions, anniversaries are going on there today."
