Story By Joe Dufek

MINOCQUA - Every high school hockey player dreams about playing in the state tournament.

Tuesday night some area boys teams began their journey - which hopefully ends in Madison.

Among the regionals, Lakeland faced Wausau East.

Lakeland led 1-0 in the first period on a goal by Jack Dern.

In the second period, East tied it on a power play goal by Landon Dehnel.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until late in the third period. With under two minutes to play, Lakeland's Nik Boyer somehow was able to fire a shot despite having several East defenders surrounding him. He scored the game-winner.

T-Birds advance with 2-1 victory. Lakeland plays at #1 Wausau West on Thursday.

Among other scores from Tuesday night, #11 Rhinelander pulled off an upset. The Hodags nipped Mosinee 1-0. Rhinelander takes on #3 Northland Pines Thursday in Eagle River.

Also Pacelli rallied against Merrill with a 7-6 overtime victory. Merrill led 5-2 in the third period. Pacelli is in Antigo Thursday. We have more scores at wjfw.com.
