300 Wis. libraries getting Internet upgradesSubmitted: 02/09/2014
Story By Associated Press

MANITOWOC - More than 300 libraries around the state will be receiving new high-speed
Internet connections this year, allowing more patrons to surf the web without
slowing down the experience for others.

An HTR Media report (http://htrne.ws/1bdRGpm ) says the libraries are being
upgraded to fiber-optic connections.

Library officials say the upgrade will make patrons happy, and will also
simplify the process of maintaining hardware.

Cherilyn Stewart is the director of the Manitowoc Public Library.

She says the current system has multiple routers that are complicated to
maintain.

She says the new system will eliminate those issues, and will also provide
increased bandwidth.

The cost to upgrade from copper to fiber-optic infrastructure is being paid in
part by the state's Technology for Educational Achievement program.
