- The Super Bowl was not the only big game played this weekend. Several high
school athletes put in big-time performances.

Here is a look at our nominees for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.


Phillips boys basketball team earned a road victory against Northland Pines
Friday Night. Danny Baratka led the Loggers with 19 points.


In girls basketball, Rhinelander's Kylie Hunter scored 21 points against Antigo.
The Hodags knocked off Antigo to move into second place in the Great Northern
Conference standings.


In Gymnastics, Katelyn Kondzela of Antigo helped the Red Robins capture the team
title in their own invite. Kondzela finished second in the all-around.


In boys hockey, Merrill's Austin Burgener had a big night at Tomahawk. He
scored two goals. He also added three assists for five points in the Bluejays

at 3pm on Friday. The winner will receive a plaque.

Elcho wrestler Alec Smith was last week's winner.

- People in Rhinelander will gather for more than football at a game tonight. The goal is to help a 13-year-old who can't join his teammates right now. Bobby Towne was diagnosed with Wilson's disease at the end of August. The disease prevents his liver from filtering copper out of his blood. Bobby's illness got so bad he now needs a liver transplant. His team will donate proceeds from the concession stand and a 50/50 raffle to the Towne family. Newswatch12s will be at the game and offer a live report tonight on Newswatch 12 at Five.

WAUSAU - Police think a high school student may have started a fire in Wausau last week.

Last Tuesday, the Wausau Police Department responded to a fire that damaged a significant amount of the building. On Thursday, police got information that a 16-year-old boy from Wausau East talked about being responsible for starting the fire.

WOOD COUNTY - We now know the names of two men who admitted to stealing cars and property in Wood and Portage Counties.

Last Friday, officers got reports of stolen cars and burglaries. The Wood County Sheriff's Office showed the public these photos of the suspect and the suspect's car.
