- Most schools in the Northwoods are closed Monday and Tuesday.

That means all is quiet on the high school sports schedule until at least Thursday.

But we still have a lot of great performances from last week.

Here is a look at our nominees for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.

In boys basketball, Rhinelander's Colton Volkmann scored 16 points against the
Medford. The Hodags won to remain undefeated in the conference.

In girls basketball, Goodman-Pembine's Rachel Stankevich scored 14 points
against Three Lakes. With the win, the Patriots remained in first place in the
Northern Lakes Conference.

In girls hockey, Tomahawk's Erika Vallier scored 5 goals against Beaver Dam. It
was her second straight game with 5 goals.

Inn wrestling, Elcho senior Alec Smith earned a pinfall against Laona/Wabeno.
It was Smith's 100th victory of his career.

To vote on any of the nominees, go to the sports poll at wjfw.com. Voting ends
at 3pm on Friday. The winner will receive a plaque.

Northland Pines goalie Jacob Stephan was last week's winner.
