Mining company to hold one on one meetingsSubmitted: 01/08/2014
Story By Associated Press

HURLEY - A company looking to build a huge iron mine near Mellen will try to make its case today.

Gogebic Taconite is planning a second round of meetings with the public to explain its plans.

Stops are planned today in Hurley, Saxon, Ashland and Mellen.

People were able to set up appointments with them to discuss the mine.

The mine project has been one of the mostly hotly debated environmental issues Wisconsin has grappled with in years.

Gogebic Taconite officials say personal meetings protect participants from being intimidated at public hearings by what they call politically motivated groups.

Gogebic Taconite held similar round of personal meetings in November.
