Chequamegon/Phillips, West earn hockey road wins
TOMAHAWK, EAGLE RIVER - In boys hockey Tuesday night, Chequamegon/Phillips opened the season in Tomahawk. The co-op known as the Seals, knocked off Tomahawk 9-1.

Meanwhile, Northland Pines faced state-ranked Wausau West in Eagle River. The #2 ranked team in the state proved to be too much. Wausau East scored the game's first three goals to defeat Northland Pines 3-1. Zach Peterson scored two of the Warriors three goals. Justin Zahn had the other goal for West. Wausau West improved to (2-1).

Steven Spencer scored the lone goal for the Eagles. Northland Pines fell to (1-1).

RHINELANDER - A backhoe ripped down a part of the Oneida County Humane Society on Tuesday morning.

It's the beginning of a new, expanded shelter that will offer more resources for pets and their future families.

The shelter will add space for intake, dog quarantine, and new owner meet-and-greet.

"We've always had the need for the areas that we are going to be able to have when this is finished, but the funding was always an issue," said Humane Society Treasurer Sue Otis.
