Prison for killing of former Wausau womanSubmitted: 11/26/2013
Story By Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - A St. Paul, Minnesota man gets a 27 year prison sentence for killing a former Wausau area woman.

Jeffery Trevino was convicted for killing his wife Kira Steger.

Her body was dumped in the Mississippi River.

Judge Leonardo Castro on Monday gave Trevino a prison sentence above Minnesota guidelines.

Prosecutors wanted a 30-year prison term for Trevino, because of aggravating factors.

Prosecutors believe Trevino didn't provide medical aid to his wife, and that he disposed of her body and didn't tell anyone.

Sentencing guidelines called for a maximum 15 years in prison.

A Ramsey County jury convicted the 39-year-old Trevino of second-degree unintentional murder last month.

Steger, who grew up near Wausau, went missing the night of February 21st.
