Story By Newswatch 12 Newsteam

MADISON - Even with a cold start to the season, thousands of hunters hit the woods this weekend for opening of gun deer hunting.

For 2013, over 6 hundred 15 thousand gun hunters registered to try to bag a deer.

That's a one percent increase from the 2012 season.

61 percent of all those licenses were purchased in November.

This year more licenses were sold over the internet than any other way.

As far as who's out hunting this year, the DNR says that females represent 10 percent of all hunters.

13 percent of hunters are youth under age 18.

10 percent of Wisconsin hunters are over the age of 65.

The DNR says that Hunters have come to Wisconsin from all 50 states as well as many foreign countries.
