Wood County Deputy leaves rifle on trunkSubmitted: 11/15/2013
Story By Associated Press

WOOD COUNTY - We've all done it.

Put a cup of coffee, food, or even a purse on top of a car as we're getting in.

And then drive off forgetting it's there.

But probably not an AR-15 rifle.

Deputies in the Wood County Sheriff's Department were probably feeling a little paniced Thursday afternoon.

The deputy put an AR15 rifle, which was in a case, on a car's trunk.

The deputy forgot the rifle was there and drove off, losing it.

The Sheriff's Department alerted the public...

Hoping someone traveling on State Highway 186 near Vesper would find it and return it.

Someone did find the rifle...and returned it to the department in the early evening.

Certainly a lesson to look of the roof and trunk of your car before driving off.
