Story By Marisa Silvas

THE NORTHWOODS - They work all year for one common goal, a trip to state. And several Northwoods athletes have been performing at a high level to get there. Here's a look at this week's nominees for Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.

Our first nominee is Hatchets volleyball star Anna Nyberg. Anna had 15 kills, 1 ace and 10 digs in Tomahawks sweep over Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Saturday. She helped lead the team to win their regional championship. Tomahawk moves on to sectionals on Thursday.

Nominee #2 is Antigo cross country runner Cortland Tatro. At the D1 Sectional in Stevens Point, Cortland sprinted to finish in 11th overall with a time of 17 minutes and 3 seconds and that was good enough to punch a ticket to state this Saturday.

Our third nominee is Renee Sladek of Merrill volleyball. Renee had 3 aces, 20 kills and 8 digs in the Blue Jays regional victory over Menominee. They also beat Marshfield over the weekend and begin sectionals Thursday.

And finally, nominee #4 is Andrew Schilling of Lakeland cross country. At the D2 Sectional in Waupaca, Andrew finished in 8th place with a time of 17 minutes 25 seconds to secure his first trip to state.

To vote on any of the nominees, go to the sports poll at wjfw.com. Voting ends at 3pm on Friday. The winner will recieve a plaque from R and D Trophies of Tomahawk.
