New Hext Theatre opensSubmitted: 10/23/2013
Story By Lauren Stephenson

RHINELANDER - The moment many performing arts lovers in the Northwoods waited for has finally arrived.

The newly renovated Hext Theatre in Rhinelander just opened.

Jim Hext and his wife, Lori, started the Hext Theatre two years ago.

They wanted to give their son - a magician - a place to perform.

"We started it two years ago in the Brown Street Mall to give people the opportunity to perform whether they be magicians or musicians, or you know, comedy," says Hext Theatre co-owner Jim Hext.

They eventually grew out of their small, 50-seat theatre.

So they moved to a larger location across the street.

The new theatre can hold as many as 150 people.

And they've already come close to filling it.

"We had Tunesmith Academy last Saturday and had 125 people in here, all ages, and it was a fantastic night," adds Hext.

The Hext's also opened Stage Left Cafe nextdoor to the theatre.

They wanted to give people an alternative to bars in the evening.
