Craft fair helps raise money for school Submitted: 10/19/2013
Story By Shardaa Gray

LAONA - Most kids raise money for their school by having a car wash or selling bakes goods.

But a group of kids in Laona decided they wanted to do something different.

Instead they started a Fall Craft Fair.

More than 40 vendors filled the Laona High School gymnasium.

It all started with a 7th grade class trying to raise money for their school.

They need more books, money for prom and homecoming.

One of the founders says they didn't want to be like the rest of their classmates and sell chocolate.

"That will take weeks. So we decided to do something different," craft fair co-founder, Madelyn Krawze.

"We choose this because it's easy way to get money and it's an easy way to get other people involved in it."

This is the first year they've held it at the high school's gymnasium.

They had to move it from the elementary gym to this one because so many people wanted to get involved.

"When we started to look at can we fit 40 vendors in there? Will it be a good facility for people to walk around and see things?" said District Administrator, Laurie Asher.

"It just wouldn't fit. So we said let's move it up into the big gym."

The kids who are now freshman in high school served chili, brats and hot sandwiches and had games for kids to play.
