RHINELANDER - Two people escaped an early morning fire south of Rhinelander Saturday, according to police.

The Pelican Fire Department got a call around 12:30 a.m. that a at home at 3261 County Road G was on fire.

The house fire was at the corner of Sycamore Street and County Road G just south of Rhinelander.

Police say two people were inside when the fire started, both of them made it out uninjured.

Capt. Mark Theiler said his department knocked down the flames in about ten minutes.

"We stretched two attack lines and decided that it would not be smart to go inside," Theiler said. "We did a defensive attack and knocked the fire down there."

Crews stayed at the house until 11 a.m. to put out any hotspots.

They had to return three hours later to deal with a separate fire next door at 5215 Ridge Street.

A gas line to a stove broke and started a small fire in the kitchen.

No one was hurt in that fire. Both fires are still under investigation.
