Meetings coming on deer managementSubmitted: 10/18/2013
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - Hunters and others have strong thoughts on how the state's deer herd should be managed.

They'll get a chance to sound off as nearly three dozen public hearings will be held on the DNR's plans to change deer management.

Those changes are based on recommendations from Texas based researcher James Kroll.

Governor Scott Walker's administration hired Kroll to study deer management.

The DNR has developed a number of proposals based on his report and comments from the public.

They include lengthening deer seasons, forming county committees on deer management and reducing the number of deer management zones.

In the north, hearing locations include Eagle River and Park Falls on October 22nd, Rhinelander on October 23rd, and Antigo on October 30th.

A complete list of dates and locations is available on the DNR's website.
