New tool for fighting underage drinkingSubmitted: 10/15/2013
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - Wisconsin bars and liquor stores may soon get a new tool to fight underage drinking.

The Wisconsin state Senate is scheduled to vote today on a bill to allow underage patrons or their parents be sued for 1-thousand dollars.

The measure passed the Assembly unanimously in May.

The Republican-sponsored bill would allow anyone with a liquor license to bring civil lawsuits against underage people who try to buy alcohol.

A parent or guardian cold be sued if the underage drinker is a minor.

If the liquor license holder wins in court, the judge must order the underage customer or their guardians to pay the establishment 1-thousand dollars.
