Man killed by train in Portage CountySubmitted: 10/10/2013

PORTAGE COUNTY - A train kills a man lying on the tracks in Portage County.

52 year old Richard Gathercoal from Milladore was killed.

Deputies got called just before noon yesterday to the tracks near the intersection of County P and County N.

The train conductor told deputies the man was lying between the tracks.

Emergency brakes were used, but Gathercoal was run over and dragged about 100 yards.

He died from massive head and internal trauma.

Family members told police Gathercoal had been suffering from dementia.
