Youth Deer Hunt this weekendSubmitted: 10/02/2013
Story By Joe Dufek

- The youth deer hunt is this weekend.

Hunters ages 10-15 have an opportunity to go out with a parent or mentor. It's to help gain valuable expereinece.

Last year more than 8,500 deer were killed during the hunt. That includes less than 3400 bucks. Nearly 5,000 deer were killed in 2011.

Licenses can still be purchased.

Youth will also be issued a statewide antlerless deer carcass tag with their license. It's valid for tagging one antlerless deer in any DMU statewide.

The Department of Natural Resources reminds all hunters need to wear at least 50% blaze orange from the waste up. Any hats must also be at least 50% blaze orange.
