Owners and pets hit the pavement for Oneida County Humane Society Submitted: 09/29/2013

RHINELANDER - Paws hit the pavement today in Rhinelander.

It was all for a good cause.

This was the second annual Downtown Pet Stroll.

Pet owners and their furry friends met downtown to walk a mile in Rhinelander.

More exotic owners dressed their dog up.

Check out this owner/dog matching outfit combo.

Oneida humane society director says this helps support the animals.

It's also a great way to get exercise.

"A lot of shelters and humane societies have walks. It's kind of a well known fundraiser for humane societies," said Oneida County Humane Society director, Bria Swartout.

"It just brings people out. Getting along with bringing their pet out. Able to walk and get exercise for both you and your pet."

They're not sure how much money they raised today.

But officials have high hopes they raised as much as last year.

"We're hoping to reach last year's goal. It was about $2,500 last year. So we're hoping to exceed that." Swartout said.

LINCOLN COUNTY - A Wausau man needed to go to the hospital after an ATV crash in Lincoln County.

Deputies and firefighters were called to the Town of Harrison Saturday afternoon about 1:15.

A 40-year-old Wausau man had been hurt in an ATV crash on County Highway B near Ski Hill Road.

The man was brought to Saint Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander, where he was listed in good condition as of Sunday night.

ANOKA, MN - Minnesota prosecutors have charged a Michigan firefighter with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in a crash that killed two fellow firefighters and injured seven more as they drove to Utah to fight a wildfire.

The criminal complaint against 28-year-old Michael Allen Johnson, of Baraga, Michigan, says he told investigators he had not slept in more than 24 hours except for a 45-minute nap early Saturday before the crash about 3 p.m. Saturday.
