VILAS COUNTY - The Northwoods is well known for deer, waterfowl, and turkey hunting.
Bear hunting is also well underway.
One Northwoods youngster had quite a moment last week.
This is 11-year old Mya Towne from Boulder Junction. Mya was hunting with a mentor in Vilas County.
Using bait which included Grenola, Mya saw this 2-year old adult. The beauty of the animal was a little intimidating at first. But after about 15 minutes, she dropped the bear with one shot. It weighed 200 pounds. She was using a youth model .308 rifle.
MERRILL - A Northwoods school pulled off a big surprise on Friday to honor a few veterans. After months of planning, students and staff at Kate Goodrich Elementary got to see the payoff of all their hard work.
"It was like kind of overwhelming," said Wolfgang Lenk.
Lenk, Todd Annis, and Randy Perry had no idea they would be the guests of honor.
"To see all these kids and knowing how hard they worked selling all this, and now your name comes up that you're one of the three recipients, it was awesome," said Annis.
