Woman dies in crash near TomahawkSubmitted: 09/19/2013
TOMAHAWK - Police today released the name of a woman killed in a crash near Tomahawk.

51 year old Kimberly Madaj of Tomahawk died when her car left the road just after three yesterday afternoon.

Madaj was headed down County Highway D in the town of king when her car went into the ditch.

It rolled over several times, and Madaj was trapped inside.

Tomahawk fire and rescue got her out, but (mah-day)Madaj died of her injuries.

The family dog was in the car but was not hurt.

The dog is now back with the family.

Madaj was the wife of the Tomahawk High School band director.

Voters could remove mayor in recall Submitted: 07/29/2014

CRANDON - People in Crandon could vote a new mayor into office Tuesday night after holding a recall election of current Mayor Rob Jaeger.

The recall comes after a group started collecting signatures in May. The small group lead by Larry Alsteen collected enough signatures for the recall.

The city council needed to order the recall as a formality under Wisconsin law. The council eventually ordered the recall after originally splitting its vote in June.

Cindy Bradley has worked as the Crandon city clerk for 17 years. She says they've seen a steady turnout throughout the day.

WPS planning to change ratesSubmitted: 07/29/2014

THE NORTHWOODS - If Wisconsin Public Service gets what it wants, you'll see an increase on one part of your energy bill. But WPS thinks it will be offset by rate reductions for many customers.

WPS puts a $10 fixed monthly charge on residential electric bills. That's true no matter how much power the customer uses. The cost helps cover equipment like meters and wires all customers need.

Right now, some of the cost for equipment gets passed on in per-unit energy charges. WPS wants to raise the fixed cost to $25 per month to better reflect delivery costs.

One person dead after being pulled from lakeSubmitted: 07/29/2014

WOODRUFF - Woodruff police want to know what happened to a person who died after ending up in the water.

The Woodruff Police Department was called to Indian Mounds boat landing about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Two DNR rangers there had pulled an unconscious male from the lake.

Medical personnel at the scene told officers the victim had died, and the coroner was called.

An autopsy will be performed.

No name will be released until the victim is positively identified.

Reconstruction of Hwy 51, Hwy 47 intersection pushed back to 2018Submitted: 07/29/2014

WOODRUFF - Construction on the intersection of Highway 51 and Highway 47 in Woodruff will be pushed back to 2018. The project was supposed to start in 2017.

That's because DOT supervisors aren't sure how they want to reconstruct the road yet. They're looking at a few different design plans right now.

Project leaders want to make sure they pick the safest option. They also want more community input before they make a decision.

MILWAUKEE - Early election voting is underway at city clerks' offices across Wisconsin.

Voters who can't make it to the polls for the primary election next month are able to cast ballots. It's the first election since the Legislature put limits on the process. In-person absentee voting can only be conducted during the two business weeks prior to an election. Voting is to take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Hwy 51 closed near IrmaSubmitted: 07/29/2014

LINCOLN COUNTY - Highway 51 South near Irma was expected to be closed until 6:00 Tuesday night.

An SUV hit a semi around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. No one was seriously hurt.

Traffic going south was rerouted while traffic going north was fine.
