Crescent Elementary is recognized for good behavior programSubmitted: 09/13/2013

RHINELANDER - A big celebration filled Rhinelander's Crescent Elementary School turned into a big party this afternoon. The party kicked-off their P-B-I-S program.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supporters.

"It's just about getting everybody in the whole school on their best behavior so that we have learning going on all the time. We don't have interuptions. We don't have discipline problems that are taking away from their learning time," says Nicki Meyer, PBIS Coach.

The state Department of Public Instruction recognized Crescent. It was named one of 77 schools that have a good PBIS program. But Crescent staff want their program to be even better.

"When we see students following all the rules we'll let them know, WOW, I saw you were walking on the right side with your hands to yourself, or you used a zero voice in the bathroom, we hand them these. And every Friday we have a celebrity that comes and delivers the prize to every student that has five or more of these in a week," says Meyer.

Other elementary schools in the Rhinelander District are working to improve their PBIS program.
