MADISON - A Northwoods representative heads up a new task force.

The task force will address rural school issues and was formed by Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.

Vos named Rhinelander republican representative Rob Swearingen, to serve as the task force's chairman.

It will study different issues, including how rural schools can share innovations and efficiencies, transportation needs, strategies for long-term financial stability, and how to handle declining enrollment.

A report on its findings and recommendations will be done early next year.

Vos plans to announce the task force members next week.

The group will hold its first meeting in Rhinelander and its second meeting in Merrill.

Dates have yet to be determined.
