Flu shots now available at Oneida County Health DepartmentSubmitted: 09/10/2013

RHINELANDER - With flu season approaching, health experts want people to get their flu shots now.

Flu shots are now available at the Oneida County Health Department.

There are two types of vaccines available-

The flu shot and the nasal spray.

People between the ages of two and 49-years-old are able to get the nasal spray.

Oneida County Public Health Nurses like to start the vaccinations in September because October is typically known as flu season.

"It takes a good two weeks for the flu shot to work," said Oneida County Public Nurse, Dawn Klink.

"So if you get it now than October, when flu season starts, it really gets going well then you will have your shot and be protected."

This year, there are different shots available that weren't before.

"This is the first year we have available the high dose for people over 65," Van Den Heuvel said.

"Also we have the shot and the nasal that's available that have the protection against four different strains verses in the past we just had the three strains."

Prices for the shots vary between $20 and $50.

You can get your shots between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

You don't need an appointment to get your shots.

THE NORTHWOODS - If Wisconsin Public Service gets what it wants, you'll see an increase on one part of your energy bill. But WPS thinks it will be offset by rate reductions for many customers.

WPS puts a $10 fixed monthly charge on residential electric bills. That's true no matter how much power the customer uses. The cost helps cover equipment like meters and wires all customers need.

Right now, some of the cost for equipment gets passed on in per-unit energy charges. WPS wants to raise the fixed cost to $25 per month to better reflect delivery costs.
