- Many students will be just starting classes on Tuesday.

But high school sports seasons are well underway.

Last week, Lakeland boys soccer player Brandon Garcia was our Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.

Here are this week's nominees.

NOMINEE ONE


In football, Northland Pines Wide receiver and running back Sam Lacko just missed earning 100 yards receiving and rushing. He finished with 90 yards in each - That includes a 59-yard touchdown reception in the Eagles win over Calumet.

NOMINEE TWO

In volleyball, Tomahawk finished third at last week's UW-Whitewater Invite. Anna Nyberg was named the tournament's MVP. She had 74 kills, 10 blocks, and 36 digs over the event.

NOMINEE THREE

In cross country, Antigo sophamore Colin Koss won the boys race at the Hodag Invitational. He finished in 17 minutes, 35 seconds.

NOMINEE FOUR

And back to football, Crandon's Trevor Tupper scored three touchdowns in the Cardinals victory over Suring.

MADISON - Wisconsin employers could see another drop in unemployment insurance taxes in 2017 due to an improved economy and employer-friendly changes in the system.

Wisconsin's unemployment insurance trust fund had a $1.3 billion deficit in 2010 following the Great Recession. Gov. Scott Walker's office said Tuesday it now sits at a $1 billion balance.

MADISON - The defense of Wisconsin voting laws being challenged in federal court as discriminatory begins with local clerks saying they haven't encountered any serious problems with the changes.

Clerks from northern Milwaukee suburbs of Cedarburg and Port Washington both testified Tuesday in federal court in Madison. They were the first witnesses called by the state Department of Justice in defense of more than a dozen laws being challenged, including elements of the voter identification requirement.
