RHINELANDER - As a freshman, high school can be pretty scary if you don't know where you're going.

That's why Rhinelander High School did something special for their incoming freshman this year.

The school held a contest called "The Amazing Race".

Students swarmed the high school making stops at different places in the building.

At each location they had to perform a task to move on to the next.

"Now we know what we're doing and we know all the teachers and we know where our classes are," said incoming freshman, Nicki Metropulos.

"It's a really good idea. A lot of the seniors didn't get this opportunity."

More than 40 upper class-men helped the incoming freshmen find their way around the school.

One of the older students remembers what it was like to be a lost and confused her first day.

"I've been in their spot and I've been scared like they were, but I would say now it's a lot different," mentor, Destiny Baitinger said.

"I'm excited to be one of the people that mentor them because I know how scared I was and I feel like I'm really high energy. So it's nice that they respond really well to us."

The winners of the race will get tickets to tonight's football game.

School starts next Tuesday.
