Wisconsin Public Service Corporation will have to pay air pollution finesSubmitted: 08/30/2013

MADISON - Wisconsin Public Service Corporation will have to pay 80-thousand dollars in air pollution fines.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says WPSC violated its Wisconsin air pollution control permit.

A company that has the potential to release a lot of pollutants has to have an air pollution control permit from the DNR.

A judge ruled Wisconsin Public Service violated its permit for its Rothschild coal fired power plants.

It submitted reports to the DNR that said it released more carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide than is allowed.

It also failed to use a required pollution control device.

WAUSAU - A man convicted of attacking a jail officer in Marathon County will learn his sentence today.

22 year old Fredrick Morris pled no contest to agrivated battery and battery by a prisoner.

Prosecutors say Morris was the inmate who threw a punch which knocked a Marathon County jail officer unconscious.

The attack happened last year in March.

Julie Christensen was critically injured and admitted to the hospital.

Morris also attacked officer Denny Woodward moments after his attack on Christensen.

MADISON - University of Wisconsin System campuses will provide free voter identification cards to students that ask for them.

A regular university ID won't work at the polls.

That's because it doesn't comply with a new state law that requires a signature and expiration date on the cards.

Cards from UW-Superior are the only ones that meet those requirements.

Every day, more than 20 kids come to Kids in Need Center.

BRUCE CROSSING, MI - Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, or UPSET arrested three people for growing marijuana.

It happened Wednesday at 11:30 in the morning near Bruce Crossing.

UPSET detectives seized nearly $6,200 in cash, 130 marijuana plants, a gun, 5 pounds of marijuana that had already been made, 1 gallon of what detectives think was hemp oil and illegal mushrooms.
