Lakeland football hopes speed will lead the waySubmitted: 08/20/2013
Story By Joe Dufek

WAUSAU - The Lakeland T-Birds are getting ready for Friday's season opener.

Lakeland travels to Colby to kickoff the season.

Last week, the T-Birds took part in a scrimmage held at Wausau West High School.

Last year Mike Mestelle's troops won 3 games. They hope their speed can help produce a few more in the win column.

"Alot faster tempo, and we feel good about that," senior quarterback and defensive back John Aguirre says. "Our defense is not big, but aggressive and playing fast."

"I love defense," senior linebacker and fullback Tom Bruckner adds. "All the guys are aggressive this year and looking really good."

"We're concerned with our lack of size," Mestelle explains. "We don't have very big linemen either side of the ball. But our linemen can run. We have to play off our quickness."
