RHINELANDER - A new event in Rhinelander promises to spark spud-lovers in the Northwoods.

Organizers for PotatoFest on August 31st have been pleased by enthusiasm for the event.

Now, signups are open for some of the tastiest tater events that weekend.

There are open events all day.

But some events need preregistration.

"We're having a potato salad cookoff. We're having a mashed potato eating contest. We're having a french fry eating contest. In the french fry eating contest, you're going to be up against some stiff competition because Sheriff Grady (Hartmann) and some of the deputies graciously said they're going to be in," says Maggie Steffen, the Executive Director of Downtown Rhinelander, Inc.

Other events include a couch potato race and the Tater Tot Parade.
