RHINELANDER, MINOCQUA - Two Northwoods high schools will have new Athletic Directors when school begins in the Fall.

In Rhinelander Monday night, the school board voted for their new A-D.

The board approved Brian Paulson as their new Athletic Director. The vote was unanimous. He is a teacher and Athletic Director at Marion High School since 2011.

The vote happened after a closed door session. Many candidates for several positions in the school district were discussed during a closed door session.

Over 40 candidates applied for the Athletic Director position.

Paulson's experience plus his two interviews helped the board make a decision.

Paulson replaces Charlie LeHam who stepped down last month. He mentioned health concerns among the reasons for leaving the post.

He is expected to begin either late this week or early next week.

In Minocqua, a familiar face is Lakeland's new A-D.

Don Scharbarth replaces Justin Szews for the T-Birds. He was the Athletic Director for 5 years back in the 90s.

He's also the former head coach of the football team and a long-time physical education teacher.

Szews was promoted to assistant-principal at the high school.
