Merrill, Antigo advance in Little League playoffsSubmitted: 07/09/2013

WAUSAU - Little League players had to avoid the raindrops in Wausau Tuesday night.

In the 11-12 year old District 5 playoffs, Rhinelander faced Merrill.

Eric Grulke hit his first career home run for Rhinelander in the first inning. It gave the Hodags a 2-0 lead.

Bottom of the second, Merrill's Kobe Blake hit a home run to tie the game.

Later in the inning, Kordell Renken belted a grand slam.

5 different Blue Jays went long, and Merrill gets the 19-9 win in 4 innings.


Later, Antigo took on the Wausau Nationals.

Antigo's C.J. Levis belted one of his two home runs in the bottom of the first.

In the second inning, Sebastian Noskowiak was dealing, he struck out the side and would get the win.

Antigo won 10-2 and will play in the championship game Thursday night.

Water weevils are native to the Northwoods. Scientists hoped the weevils could kill invasive Eurasian water milfoil.

It turns out the weevils do kill milfoil, but the beetles are not very efficient.

The Goodwill in Rhinelander hopes you'll look good for much less. Goodwill has Halloween items like hats, trick-or-treat baskets to full costumes.

One Northwoods farmer is about 2 weeks behind this year.

But that doesn't necessarily mean the worst.

Northwoods Parish raising money for school, church upgradesSubmitted: 10/22/2014

RHINELANDER - A Northwoods Parish wants to raise at least two million dollars to renovate its schools and church.

Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School needs technology and infrastructure upgrades. One of the school's buildings hasn't been updated since the 1950s.

School leaders think it's important to also upgrade the school's wireless ability. The school has SmartBoards, iPads, and laptops, but they want the equipment to work better.

Integrys declines Eaglewatch bidSubmitted: 10/22/2014

ST. GERMAIN - The winner of a huge Northwoods land auction will end up getting nothing.

The parent company of Wisconsin Public Service won't go through with the sale of its large lakefront property, Eaglewatch, in St. Germain.

Integrys declined a $3.8 million bid for the 187-acre property.

It held the auction last month to sell off the land.

That property also has 10,000 feet of lake frontage.

3 teens dead after crash in Shawano County Submitted: 10/22/2014

SHAWANO COUNTY - Three teens died after a two-car accident in Shawano County Tuesday evening.

The Shawano County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a two-car crash along Highway 22, north of Friendship Road in the Town of Bell Plaine.

A white car was heading northbound on Highway 22 and lost control while trying to cross into the southbound lane. The passenger in that car was hit by an oncoming SUV driving, also traveling southbound.
