CRANDON - Alyssa Hitchcock is a women's powerlifter. Her family owns a cabin just outside of Crandon.

Alyssa, who is from Neenah, will soon be competing in international competition.

Powerlifting is not an Olympic sport. In powerlifting, the athletes lift in different stages.

In Olympic Weightlifting, the compeditors lift in one motion.

She's traveling to compete in this month's World Games in Columbia. That is the elite event in the sport.

Recently, her family held a couple of brat fries in Crandon. Her family has spent well over $10,000 in her career. That's to pay for fees, traveling, and other expenses.

She is just one of 5 athletes representing the United States. She has been lifting for 15 years. She started when she was at Neenah high school.

She's also quick to say, the federation's strict drug testing rules help proves that she is accomplishing her strength naturally.

"We get drug tested a lot," Hitchcock explains. "I've pretty much seen everything happen in this sport. I've seen broken bones, it's really about technique and form."

She has lifted nearly 1200 pounds in competitions. In November, she is expected to take part in the IPF Open World Powerlifting Championships in Norway.
