MILWAUKEE - The connection between a dog and its owner can seem like a perfect bond.

But police in Milwaukee are trying to find out why someone would leave a dozen dogs in a vacant home.

Police believe the 12 pitbulls were either being bred for sale or for dog fighting.

The dogs were found neglected and malnourished inside the vacant home.

Some of the dogs were in cages or tied to them. Others were running loose.

The dogs are now with rescue group.

An animal control officer found one of the dogs wandering the neighborhood after it somehow got outside.

Police say you should be aware of vacant homes in your community.
