PRESQUE ISLE - Old time fairs might sound like a thing of the past.

But Northwoods residents had the chance to relive a day at an old fashioned street fair.

Today was the 36th annual Presque Isle Country Fair.

More than 60 booths filled Main Street.

The street was blocked off to showcase jewelery, crafts, music and food for visitors to see.

One of the main attractions was the frog and turtle race.

We caught up with some of the winners to see what their strategy was for winning.

"Just like pound on the ground really and just got going." said turtle race winner, Emmi Kruhak.

"All you really do is just blow on the frog and I blowed in the direction where it was suppose to go. I finished in first." frog race winner, Cade Kruhak said.

The fair was started by the chamber of commerce in 1977.

Chamber of commerce president, Barbara Peck says this is great for any age.

"It's like an old fashion fair. So we don't bring in any carnival games or anything like that. We want to keep it as simple as possible," said Chamber of Commerce President, Barbara Peck.

"That's why we had the frog and turtle races. Somebody was just saying this is so much fun. I've never seen anything like it and what a great thing for a small community."

Other activities that happened at the fair were the pie eating contest and canoe race.

The fair is held every fifth Sunday at the end of June.

Warden Marc Clements told Visser in January he'd be suspended for one day and required to attend diversity training for what the warden called a "serious act of misconduct."

Visser did not immediately return a call seeking comment Sunday.
