Story By Ryan Michaels

ACROSS THE NORTHWOODS - High winds, heavy rains, and lightning can cause problems for electric systems here in the Northwoods.

Power outages due to severe weather are relatively common. So here are some tips from WPS to help you stay ahead of the storm.

Keep a battery operated radio and working flashlights handy with extra batteries.

Familiarize yourself with how to operate your back up generator if you have one.

If you see a dangerous situation, like a downed power line or branch on the wires, call WPS at 800-450-7240 to report it.
