Citizens Task Force improving security at Marathon County JailSubmitted: 06/20/2013
Story By Kailey Burton

WAUSAU - The Marathon County jail needs security changes. That's what the citizen task force told the sheriff's department after a month-long review of the jail.

Some of the task force's suggestions have already been put into place, including one that came directly from watching the attack on jail officer Julie Christensen.

"It would be easy for the average person to see, this is just not a good situation. You have people milling around all over. People up on an upper balcony watching as if they're waiting for something to happen.... So the suggestion was made that the rule now is that all the inmates need to sit and be quiet at a table. Then the corrections officers can move through the room and do what they have to do," said Paul Jones, Chair of the Citizen Jail Task Force.

Jones says they're almost done making suggestions, and about two thirds of the way through implementing them
