Newman Catholic softball falls short of state titleSubmitted: 06/08/2013

MADISON, WI - School's out for summer but one area team was still in action fighting for a title today. The Newman Catholic softball team made it to the final game in their first appearance at state.

It was scoreless till the bottom of the 4th inning. Allison Brill smacked a base hit to right scoring Brianna Jankowski and Anna Gosz. That gave the Fighting Cardinals a 2 run lead.

Top of the fifth Algoma didn't waste any time. After evening the score at 2 Meg Ryan snuck one up the middle to add a couple more runs and put the Wolves up 4-2.

In the top of the 6th, Algoma would tack on one more run on an RBI single to make it a 3 run game.

Bottom of the frame, Newman trailed 5-3 and Brill drove in another run. But that would be all the scoring and Algoma would hold on for the 5-4 win.
