17 Little League Teams Take Over RhinelanderSubmitted: 05/25/2013

HODAG PARK - Just across the way from the high schoolers, the next generation of players took over Hodag Park.

Seventeen little league teams are taking part in the 4th annual Hodag Memorial Invite. The tournament has 4 age divisions, with players ranging from 9-12 years old.

These are the 10 and under squads from Rhinelander and Kaukana.

The 14 out of town teams is a record high with kids from Antigo, Merrill, D.C. Everest and others from around the state.

You can catch tomorrow's action starting at 9am with play finishing around 8 at night.

MADISON - A Republican state senator wants to ban exotic pets in Wisconsin as Milwaukee officials struggle to capture a lion-like animal roaming the city's streets.

Van Wanggaard of Racine is circulating a bill that would prohibit the possession, propagation and sale of dangerous exotic animals, including lions, tigers, polar bears, gorillas and various crocodilians.

MINNEAPOLIS - A Minnesota father charged with killing his 10-year-old son and throwing the boy in the river has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Pierre Collins long denied any involvement in the death of his son, Barway. But he admitted Monday to striking the boy, bounding him with duct tape and tossing him in the Mississippi River near Minneapolis, where the child's body was found weeks later.

ARBOR VITAE - The Arbor Vitae Fire Department hosted its 39th Fireman's Picnic and Summerfest this weekend.

Thousands of people came out to benefit the fire department while having a good time. The fire department held the crowd favorite lawnmower races again this year.

They also had a volleyball tournament and games for kids. The fire chief says all the proceeds help the department pay for equipment.

"When we purchased our new fire truck, the fire department funded a good portion of the money, the fundraiser money, to help keep the tax dollars down so the tax payers didn't have to foot the whole bill for the truck," said Arbor Vitae Fire Department Chief Mike Van Meter. "And we also use it to buy turnout gear throughout the year, new air packs. Anything we can do to keep it off the tax roll."
