Hodags nip Wausau East in Softball RegionalSubmitted: 05/21/2013

WAUSAU - Playoff season has arrived for area softball teams. Regional semifinals were held around the state Monday.

Rhinelander finished second in the GNC. The Hodags took on the Lumberjacks at Wausau East.

Bottom of the 1st - Wausau East's Paige Heinrich sends one to deep left. 2 runs score to tie things up at 2.

Top of the 2nd - now 3-2 Rhinelander. Bases juiced for Sophie Schmidt, who gets it through to left. One run is in, another Hodag tries to score. But she's thrown out at the plate. Hodags up 4-2.


With the tying run on 1st for East in the bottom of the 7th, Mara Meyer got the strike out to end the game. Meyer had 11 K's and Rhinelander gets the 4-3 win. They'll face SPASH on Thursday.

The woman was riding south on Highway 45 when she tried to turn onto Evergreen Road. That's when a southbound car collided with the bicyclist.
