MADISON - University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have received bids into the 2013 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship and will compete in a six-team, double-elimination regional hosted by UW-Whitewater at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium May 15-18.
The Pointers (35-9) received an automatic bid into the 56-team field by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament title. UW-Stevens Point is making the 14th NCAA appearance in program history and eighth in the last nine seasons. The Pointers will open regional competition against Benedictine University (Ill.) (32-10) at 3 p.m. on May 15.
The Warhawks (34-7) earned one of 18 available at-large bids into the event. UW-Whitewater, who claimed the NCAA Division III championship in 2005, is making its sixth consecutive NCAA showing - and 16th overall. The Warhawks will face Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) (27-12) in their opening contest at 6 p.m. on May 15.
University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (33-5) and College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) (27-9) will also compete in the Whitewater Regional.
CRANDON - Terri Burl wanted to ask more questions than make comments during Congressman Sean Duffy's town hall in Crandon on Thursday.
"Everybody's in the state of the unknown right now," Burl said.
Burl, a Republican, was thinking of her 26-year-old son in Oshkosh as she asked Duffy (R-Wausau) about health care concerns. She worries about tax penalties for her uninsured son and the GOP's lack of solid ideas to replace the Affordable Care Act.
