Iconic Building Will Likely Be DemolishedSubmitted: 04/26/2013
Story By Lex Gray

MERRILL - The city of Merrill will likely need to say goodbye to a historical building.

City leaders tried for years to get grants to restore the Lincoln House on South Mill Street.

It's stood there since 1863.

But they didn't get the grants and now, it seems demolition is the cheapest option.

"I'll be sad to see it go, because there's a lot of memories here, not only for myself but for the community here," said Mayor Bill Bialecki. "I can remember having my hair cut down here 60 year s ago, there used to be a barbershop in here, just so many people came and went from this building."

The city council will look at demolition bids at their May 14 meeting.

If they choose one, the city has to give tenants 60 days' notice before tearing it down.
