Baby Animals Should be Left AloneSubmitted: 04/22/2013
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - They may be cute, but the DNR wants you to leave baby animals alone.

DNR biologists say many wild animals give birth in the spring.

They say people may spot young ones that look as if they're alone and vulnerable in the woods, but their mothers are likely nearby and watching over them.

State and federal law prohibit the possession of live wild animals without a license or permit.

People can legally possess a wild animal for up to 24 hours to transport it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

The DNR says if people find an animal that truly appears to need help, they should call the agency and leave the creature alone.
